Toyota Gets Camry Hybrid in India

Japanese car manufacturer – Toyota which is present in India in a joint venture with Kirloskar group – Toyota Kirloskar Motors (TKM) has launched its all new Camry Hybrid in India. The company had already begun assembling the a gasoline-electric version of the Camry Sedan, last year.

Hiroshi Nakagawa, managing director and chief executive of Toyota Kirloskar Motors said,

“The Camry hybrid is India’s first locally manufactured hybrid vehicle.The vehicle will be manufactured at a separate assembly line within TKM’s second plant located in Bidadi, near Bangalore, in Karnataka, he added.

Toyota Motor Corp confirmed the sedan car would accommodate a 2.5-liter beltless gasoline engine with an electric motor that runs on ‘Hybrid Synergy Drive’, which senses when to switch between the two power sources – petrol engine and electric motor and is capable of delivering a mileage of 19.16 kmpl. The car would be manufactured at a separate assembly line in the second factory of Toyota Kirloskar near the Karnataka capital – Bangalore.

“Toyota is a pioneer in hybrid technology and thus we were very keen to manufacture the all New Camry Hybrid in India as well. This is in line with Toyota’s global philosophy to encourage the use of hybrid vehicles across the globe, for a greener tomorrow.” reported one official.

Toyota has sold more than five million hybrid vehicles world-wide. It imports and markets the Prius hybrid car in India, currently. New Camry Hybrid is the first ever hybrid car to be locally manufactured, priced at Rs 29.75 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The launch of the Camry Hybrid aims to further strengthen Toyota’s global flagship brand.
