Google has officially confirmed that its Duo app will introduce video calling support for Android tablets as well as on iPads. The latest Google Duo update brings tablet support for the video calling app, which will be available for all Android tablet and iPad users in the next few days.
Google confirmed the news on Twitter, adding that the update will be available to all Android tablet and iPad users. However, the update is being rolled in phases so users might not see it immediately, but it’ll definitely arrive on their tablets in the next few days.
To recall, Google added a dedicated interface for Android tablets back in July. Though that time, only a handful of users could use the new tablet interface for Google Duo. With the new update, all Android tablets and iPads will be optimised to get this support.
The video calling window in Google Duo covers almost the entire tablet’s screen. The right side features the video call and voice call tabs along with the contacts search bar. The update now takes advantage of the large screen real estate on tablets, which should come in real handy for group chats or calls.
Interested users can download the Google Duo app from the PlayStore and the App store for free.
Google anounced Duo and Allo during I/O 2016 in response to rivals like Facebook Messenger, Apple’s Facetime, and Microsoft Skype. The Google Duo app is gradually gaining popularity among users. The company has gradually improved the app by adding features such as support for Google Assistant, screen-sharing as well as multiple device support. However, the Mountain View firm’s Allo app hasn’t witnessed the same response.
