Android 7.0 Nougat is here and now it’s available for Google Nexus devices only. Google already released the source code of Android 7.0 Nougat and one of the developers on XDA developers forum finally ported it for OnePlus One. If you are also a proud OnePlus One user then you can get a taste of Nougat right away. This is not an official update, just a customized firmware.
The installation is a little risky so make sure to follow the steps carefully if you are installing this on your primary smartphone.
- You should backup your phone’s data before proceeding the installation process
- Make sure that your phone is charged to 80% or above.
Install Custom Recovery on OnePlus One:
- Download ADB drivers and install them on your PC.
- Download the Android SDK platform tools slim version from here and extract it into a new folder (name it as Bacon).
- Download the TWRP recovery zip file and extract it to the Bacon folder.
- Connect your phone to the PC via USB cable.
- Open the folder Bacon and right-click in the empty space (while holding the shift key).
- Select “Open command window here” and a command window will open.
- Type these commands one by one:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot oem unlock
fastboot reboot - Your phone will reboot and all the data will get wiped.
- Now type in these commands one by one:
adb reboot boootloader
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot reboot
Now your phone will reboot to the OS mode and you can proceed to the Android 7.0 Nougat AOSP ROM installation process.
Steps to install Android 7.0 Nougat AOSP ROM on OnePlus One:
- Download the Android 7.0 Nougat AOSP ROM and Google Apps package (select ARM64, 7.0, pico and click download button) and save them on your PC.
- Connect your phone to PC via USB cable and move both the zip files downloaded from above link to your phone. Paste both zip files in the root folder not inside any existing folder.
- Now disconnect the smartphone from PC and reboot it into recovery mode (turn it on by holding Volume down and power button together).
- Once in recovery mode, wipe the data and factory reset the device. After that wipe the cache and dalvik cache of the smartphone (clearing cache is an important step).
- Now select the “Install from SD card” option and select the ROM zip file from the root folder (where you copied the zip files).
- After installing the ROM zip file, repeat the above step and select Google apps zip file this time.
- Once done, Reboot your device and wait till you see the new boot animation.
Your phone will take some time to boot to the setup for the first time. Once booted, complete the setup and use your device like before. If you find any difficulty installing the ROM then feel free to ask us in the comment section below.
