Telenor India to roll out 4G LTE services in 6 telecom circles by the end of 2016

Telenor India, which claims to be the most economical telecom network, anticipates to have 4G services in six circles by this fiscal’s end. Sharad Mehrotra, Chief Executive Officer of Telenor India, said that currently 7,000 mobile sites are Long Term Evolution(LTE) ready. The company has begun delivering LTE in the city of Varanasi. Telenor anticipates that the whole network will be modernized by the end of this fiscal.

The firm has given Rs. 1,240 crore contract to Huawei, a prominent Chinese telecom company for revamping all its 25,000 mobile based stations located in six telecom circles where it is present.

Telenor India offers mobile services in Gujarat, Maharashtra, UP (West, East), Andhra Pradesh (including Telangana) and Bihar (including Jharkhand). Taken as a whole, the circles are home to more than half of the population of India. The firm has license for Assam, however, has not begun its services there yet.

As per Mehrotra, 30% of Telenor clients are utilizing data, and the remaining are utilizing voice. Mehrotra said high speed is the future. However, debutant data users are testing the Internet on networks such as Telenor. The company has to have high-speed data services in the future.

According to data from TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India), Telenor had 7.24 lakh mobile users at January end. It ranked among the top five telecom companies when it came to fresh subscriber addition.

Mehrotra said the organization is developing digital products that it provides to clients as it increases its network. Telenor India provides 2G services in six telecom circles in India. It has reformed 1.4MHZ of its 2G spectrum for deploying data services.

Telenor India is leveraging a technology known as lean GSM to provide data services. In eight telecom circles, they are going to provide narrow band LTE. The lean GSM trial is presently on in 30 cities and will be officially released in 55 cities later in 2016. Huawei developed the lean GSM solution that helps compress data to efficiently utilize limited spectrum.
